Match Rule Change

Two new Rules From1 April 2011

Please note that these rules apply ONLY TO HOLLYWOOD LAKE AND MERRY’S POOL.

REPEAT, ONLY TO HOLLYWOOD LAKE AND MERRY’S POOL.

NO METHOD FEEDERS, INLINE FEEDERS, OR FIXED FEEDERS.

(STANDARD FREE RUNNING PATERNOSTER STYLE FEEDERS ARE OK )

MINIMUM HOOKLENGTH  FOR LEGERING / FEEDER FISHING 12 INCHES.

Why?

Unfortunately many of the smaller Carp in both of these waters exhibited a varying degree of edge of the lip wear and damage last season( 2010-2011).

This was a puzzling phenomenon as both waters receive only light angling pressure.

After a period of observation, it became apparent that the method feeder, which was much more widely used  than at any time in the past, was producing an endless series of sharp taps, pulls and aborted bites before a true pull round.

In our opinion each of these registrations on the tip is caused by a fish pricking itself without truly setting the hook, which obviously does occur when the tip sails round.

This constant nicking of the tissue around the outer edge of the mouth would appear to be consistent with the lip wear and damage mentioned.

It should be said that the larger fish of two to three pounds upwards were more or less unaffected, which is why the aforementioned methods will still be allowed on all of our other waters (apart from Tripp, which is FLOAT ONLY).

Whilst this move may prove to be unpopular, the health and condition of the fish is paramount.

It is not our policy to implement rules without good reasons and it is hoped that the above comments go some way to explaining why we feel that this move is necessary.

Once again this rule applies ONLY TO HOLLYWOOD LAKE AND MERRY’S POOL.

footnote, this rule change appears to have been successful as the lip damage now seems to be greatly reduced.

After discussions with match anglers who fish with us on a regular basis we have decided to increase the maximum shotting capacity for wagglers to 12 grams.

Please note that a maximum diameter of 8 mm for the visible part of the float still applies in order to prevent the use of self hooking floats.
